At Enhanced Scanning, safety is one of our top priorities. A lot of the work we do allows our clients to proceed safely with their construction projects. We help them locate utility lines buried on their properties, as well as any hazards that might be embedded in concrete slabs or CMU walls prior to disturbing them. For our archaeology clients, we help them focus their efforts so they can safely dig and avoid damaging valuable artifacts.
One of the main technologies we use in scanning is ground penetrating radar (GPR). GPR antennas and receivers are able to accurately locate objects of many different types in a variety of environments. It’s also completely safe for our technicians to use.
Unlike X-ray technology, which emits harmful radiation, GPR isn’t hazardous to anyone using it or anyone in the area, and it doesn’t even require technicians to wear any sort of special protective equipment, other than what would be required on the work site (hard hats, high-visibility clothing, etc.). Ground penetrating radar uses non-ionizing electromagnetic waves, which do not put out enough energy to do any sort of damage. This is in contrast to X-rays, which emit ionizing radiation that can be harmful to anyone nearby. We use X-ray in very specific circumstances, and when we do, we require our technicians to take special precautions and also require that the immediate area be evacuated by everyone else during the scan.
Where the safety concerns come in with GPR is when inaccurate results are provided to a client. Our clients act on our results, so we need to make sure we are doing everything we can to give them information they can rely on. Here are two ways we do this:
Investing in Top-Quality GPR Equipment
At Enhanced Scanning we stay on top of the latest offerings in GPR equipment and other non-destructive scanning tools. We take the time to research new technologies that show promise and adopt them when they will improve the level of service we offer.
We have an extensive international network of utility, concrete, LiDAR, GPR, and 3D modeling experts, with whom we regularly collaborate. When there are new advances in our industry, we are among the first to know about them and adopt them for the benefit of our clients.
Only Sending Out Highly Trained and Skilled GPR Technicians
We have a great team of technicians at Enhanced Scanning! That’s because we hire great people and then spend a lot of time training them to use our equipment and accurately interpret the results. We don’t send out technicians until we are confident in their ability to provide our clients with results they can count on.
There is a lot riding on the GPR scanning services we perform, and we don’t take that lightly! If you have a project in need of GPR scanning, contact us to schedule service.
