As one of the leading scanning companies in Southern California, our team is often called by potential customers needing concrete scanning done in Los Angeles. We may not be the person’s first phone call—likely because we don’t have a Los Angeles address—but we will often secure the job because we can get to the site quickly and provide the customer with the results they need while still on site.
Here at Enhanced Scanning, we are known for our rapid response rates. We can’t promise same-day or next-day services, but that’s often what we are able to deliver.
Not all of our customers need emergency concrete scanning services, but some do. There are just some projects for which you can’t plan ahead, like if a pipe bursts under your concrete slab. You need to know where it’s safe to cut into the concrete without hitting rebar so the pipe can be repaired. A technician from the Enhanced Scanning team can come out to your property, scan the area in question, and immediately tell you where the rebar is located so it can be avoided.
What About Metal Detectors or Rebar Locators?
You’ve probably noticed that handheld metal detectors and rebar locators can be purchased online for fairly affordable prices. These devices may be fine for a low-stakes project or if they are used on concrete slab without other items embedded in it. So, for example, if you have a slab that you know has widely spaced rebar and no conduit in it, a metal detector might suffice. Just know that the metal detector won’t give you an exact location of the rebar or be able to tell you where its boundaries are. A rebar locator will be more accurate than a metal detector for finding the locations of the rebar, but it won’t be able to give you information about depth of cover or the diameter of the rebar.
As professional locators who pride ourselves on the accuracy of our concrete scanning services, we can’t recommend these types of DIY devices in good conscience. They just don’t provide the level of detail you need if you’re going to be cutting or coring into a concrete slab. If you hit anything embedded in the concrete—rebar or otherwise—any money you saved by not hiring professional concrete scanning services in Los Angeles will be negated.
Ground Penetrating Radar for Concrete Scanning Services in Los Angeles
On just about all of our concrete scanning projects, our technicians use ground penetrating radar (GPR). This technology, when employed by skilled technicians, is extremely accurate at locating embedded items in concrete, such as rebar, conduit, post-tensioned cables, pipes, and more. It can also determine the concrete’s thickness, as well as locate any voids and give you information about any concerning cracks.
