Underground Scanning Without the Wait

Blog · January 13, 2026

If you have an upcoming project on your property that requires any sort of excavation, the “Call Before You Dig” program advises you to contact them to schedule the local utility companies to come out and mark where their utility lines are located. Once you call them, you are told to wait two days for someone from each of the utility companies to come out (not including the day you requested service, and not including weekends and holidays).

In the best-case scenario, you put in your service request, and within 72 hours, you are cleared to move forward with your excavation project. However, in the real world, this is not always how it works out, and in some cases, you may not have 72 hours to wait.

While Enhanced Scanning doesn’t provide free underground scanning for utilities like the Call Before You Dig service does, we do provide timely service. If you contact our office, we can often get to your property the next day for underground scanning, no matter where you are located in Southern California. Our service area includes Los Angeles, all the way to the Coachella Valley, and as far south as San Diego.

Many property owners and contractors find our underground scanning service to be a lifesaver for their projects that are on tight timelines, where delays can be costly.

Not only do we have rapid response times, but we are also able to find all buried utilities in one service call, as well as any other buried hazards that might be present. In contrast, when you use the 8-1-1 service, you may have to wait around for a technician from each of the local utility companies to come out and mark your property. This might include the electrical company, the water company, the gas company, and any telecommunications companies that service your property.

Someone from the Enhanced Scanning team will come out, and, using the latest in underground scanning tools, accurately locate utility lines, including plastic water pipes. We can also find other buried hazards that you may not know about, such as buried tanks, abandoned water lines, and more.

If you’ve never used a private underground scanning company before, don’t worry! We’ll explain the entire process to you and make sure we understand what you need before we get started. If you just need markings on the ground where your utility lines are located, we can provide that, but we also offer other deliverables, such as a digital file that indicates where hazards are located, or even a set of stamped plans from a licensed professional land surveyor.

Contact us at Enhanced Scanning to schedule service today. If your project needs expedited service, let us know and we will do our best to work with your schedule.
