At Enhanced Scanning, our motto is “Find the unfindable.” This approach motivates us every day as private utility locators. We don’t just want to find the easy stuff—we want to find all of the stuff! That includes the buried hazards that our clients don’t even ask us to look for—the ones they don’t even know about.
There are some private utility locators out there who use the same approach on every project: they scan the area using ground penetrating radar (GPR) and call it a day. To be fair, for many projects, only using GPR is perfectly adequate. GPR scanners alone can find a lot of buried hazards, such as electrical lines, gas lines, septic lines, and more. But there are also cases when GPR isn’t enough.
Take, for example, this utility locating project that Enhanced Scanning completed in Utah for a government client. This client needed their property scanned for buried utilities in preparation for razing their existing facility and building an all new one. We scanned the entire two-acre property using GPR, but if that’s all we had done, we would have missed something very important. On this property was a long-forgotten monitoring well that we only found because we used a soil conductivity meter to scan the property as well. Had we only used GPR and not found the monitoring well, and it had been hit during the earth moving process, the project would have almost certainly come to a screeching halt.
We want to help every client avoid project delays, as well as expensive damage or injury that could result from hitting buried utilities. That is why we are always extremely thorough and often take a multi-tool approach to utility locating.
Unless you are the original owner of a property and know exactly where all private utilities are located, it makes sense to be thorough. You never know what a previous owner could have buried on your property—or where they buried it. The last thing you want to do is discover it when you hit it while digging.
Not only does Enhanced Scanning have a wide range of non-destructive locating tools at our disposal, but our team members are also highly trained and skilled in their use. Here is a sampling of some of the tools in our “tool bag:”
- Single, dual, and multi-channel Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) antennas
- Electromagnetic Frequency (EMF) transmitters and receivers
- Sewer push cameras
- Soil conductivity meters
- Electromagnetic Induction (EMI) sensors
- Magnetometers
- Push rods
- Pulse Wave Generators
No matter how big or small the project, the team at Enhanced Scanning is here to help! We offer private utility locating throughout Southern California, but we will also take on projects throughout the country when our special expertise is needed. Contact us today to schedule service.
