At Enhanced Scanning, the majority of our Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scanning projects fall into what we consider our “typical” categories. These projects often involve using GPR to locate buried utility lines, underground infrastructure, or other hidden hazards before remodeling, excavation, or construction begins. We also frequently scan concrete slabs, walls, and other structural elements to identify embedded rebar, post-tension cables, conduits, and other objects before cutting, coring, or drilling.
For most of these projects, we’re working at private residences, commercial buildings, or active construction sites where we can easily access the work area during normal business hours. However, not every project fits that schedule. Some jobs require after-hours or overnight scanning, and we’re fully equipped to accommodate those requests whenever necessary.
One common example is infrastructure work involving roads, highways, bridges, or freeways. Before contractors begin excavation or demolition, GPR scanning is often needed to identify underground utilities and other subsurface features. When these projects take place on heavily traveled roadways, the safest and most practical time to perform the scanning is during overnight lane closures, when traffic volumes are significantly lower. Performing the work at night helps minimize disruptions to commuters while allowing construction crews to safely prepare for the next phase of the project.

Airports, hospitals, university campuses, convention centers, and crowded downtown sidewalks can all experience heavy foot traffic throughout the day. Closing walkways or restricting access for scanning during peak hours can create bottlenecks, inconvenience visitors, and even introduce safety concerns. By scheduling GPR scanning after hours, project managers can keep these public spaces operating more smoothly while still gathering the information needed to complete the work safely.
Our GPR scanning crews are also frequently asked to work after hours in facilities where daytime work could interfere with normal operations. Hospitals are an excellent example, as minimizing disruptions to patients, visitors, and medical staff is often a top priority. Schools, corporate offices, manufacturing facilities, warehouses, retail stores, and other occupied buildings may also request evening or overnight scanning so employees, customers, or students can continue their normal activities without interruption. In many cases, working outside of regular business hours allows construction or maintenance projects to stay on schedule while reducing inconvenience for everyone involved.
